Keith Allen Braden

February 11, 1955 - November 5, 2017

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas - Keith Braden, 62, and his family were regular attendees at Sutherland Springs’ First Baptist Church, his brother Bruce Braden told the Indy Star.

Keith served in the Army National Guard and worked at a local grocery store, Bruce said, and Debbie was a stay-at-home mom who raised their three children, who are now adults.

Bruce Braden said Keith's wife, Debbie, was shot three times, and their 6-year-old granddaughter was shot in the hip and may lose the use of her leg. Both have undergone multiple surgeries.

Two of those children, Beth and Bob, were at the church service. Bruce Braden said Bob was grazed by a bullet, treated and released.

Bruce and Keith come from an Army family. Their dad served. They both served, as did their two brothers, Phil and Glen. They also have two sisters.

The Bradens were raised in Mount Pleasant, Penn, outside Pittsburgh, but Bruce Braden said the siblings are scattered across the country. Bruce Has been living in Carmel since being stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in the 1970's.

Keith stayed in Texas after being stationed in San Antonio. Keith met Debbie in Texasa and raised a family, Bruce Braden said.

"He was a good father," Bruce said. "He was strict and fair, but loving. he was a good provider and a good husband."

Bruce said the family often spent time at a cabin on the Gulf of Mexico and enoyed the beach.

He said Keith was good with kids, entertaining children at family reunions. He also had recently recovered from Cancer.

My brother Keith had just fought off cancer the last couple of years,"Bruce said. "He had lost a lot of weight and hair from chemotherapy. I posted a picture on Facebook of him getting his hair and his weight back.

"He was hoping to have a nice umber of years left to live with his family. That was taken away in an instant."

Burial will be at Sutherland Springs Cemetery.
