© The Bakersfield Californian 27 November 2005 Leslie Fred English Born in Los Angeles, California, Leslie attended local schools in the El Monte area, and married, Jean Elizabeth Hayes before moving to Delano in 1951. He worked as a distributor for Mobile Oil Company and later for Beacon Oil Company for 24 years as marketing manager of crude oil supply. In 1958 he began exploring independently for oil and gas in Kern and Tulare Counties. In 1962 he founded and incorporated Mission Oil, an oil and gas exploration and production company still in business today. In the late 70s and early 80s he often testified in Washington DC before a full senate on behalf of independent refineries and oil companies. Leslie was an airman in the National Guard and a proud and active member of: The Knights of Columbus; the Rotary Club; the Young Republicans of Los Angeles; The Elks Club; the Jonathan Club of Los Angeles; the Petroleum Club and the American Legion. He is predeceased by his son, Ralph Vincent English. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean, of 59 years; his daughters, Marion Abbott of Napa, CA; Susan Beck of Burkburnett, TX; Rosemary Bergson of Jackson, CA; Bethanne Makohin of San Anselmo, CA; Cecilia Parker of Elk Grove, CA and his son Terrence Emmett of Bakersfield, CA; 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grand- children, numerous nieces and nephews; a brother, Allan English of Sacramento, CA; and a sister, Mary Louise Wells of LaVerne, CA. Leslie will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and family, his love for his religion and community and his passion for exploring for oil in the central valley. He will be missed more than words can express. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kyle Terry and the staff at Delano Skilled Nursing for the years of excellent care and support, which Les received. Viewing Monday, November 28th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Delano Mortuary, 790 Browning Rd. Delano. Rosary services will be held following the viewing 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church, Tuesday, November 29th,10:00 a.m. Internment following the service at North Kern Cemetery.
