© The Bakersfield Californian Wednesday, 17 October 2007 Shirley Louise [Cooper] Clayton Shirley L. Clayton, 65 years old, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away early Saturday morning October 13, 2007. Shirley was born October 17, 1941, in Bakersfield, CA to Harry and Mary Cooper who both preceded her in death. Shirley was married to John "Jack" Clayton in 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada and they spent 47 wonderful years together. They have one son, Brian Clayton of Bakersfield. Shirley is survived by her husband, Jack; son, Brian and daughter-in-law, Kathy; and her two grandchildren, Alicia and Brady, who where the very light of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth and her husband, Jerry Word of Nipomo; and her nieces, Becky Humphrey of Nipomo, Renee Benton and Melissa Kelley of Bakersfield. Special thanks to "the girls" at San Joaquin Hospital billing department where Shirley worked for over 30 years, you've all brought her so much joy over the years. Thank you for all you've done. Shirley and her family are truly grateful to you all. Shirley was a wonderful loving person who always cared for those around her never thinking of herself. She will be missed by all those that were fortunate enough to know her. Shirley fought a long hard battle out of love for her grandchildren Alicia and Brady. Grandma loves you both very much! Memorial services will be held Friday, October 19, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Chapel, 2739 Panama Lane. No visitation is scheduled.
