Sam was born on March 10,1915 to Jake and Pollie Sheffield in Covington, Texas. He passed away on December 28, 2007 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 92.
Sam was employed by Richfield Oil Co. (ARCO) for 24 years, retiring in 1973.
He had a very good work ethic and set the standard for his children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed his retirement playing golf, fishing, and traveling in his R.V. He especially loved tinkering in his garage and could fix almost anything.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 43 years, Lorene; daughter, Nancy Bryant; son, Mark and wife, Linda; adopted daughter, Pamela Ann Tyler and husband, Jeff. He leaves behind four grandsons, Steve Sheffield and wife, Laurel, Andy Sheffield and wife Stephanie, Greg Bryant and wife, Kriss and Jeff Bryant. He had 5 stepchildren, James and Betty Umfress, Bobby and Alison Umfress, Dorothy and Carlos Ginn, Charles and Debra Umfress, and Dick and Lynda Umfress.
Sam was a loving Papa to 55 grandchildren and great grandchildren in all.
A memorial service will be held at RiverLakes Church on Friday, January 4th, at 3:00 p.m.
