© Tehachapi News Monday, 1 October 2007 Sharon Leigh [Keller] Payne Tehachapi area resident Sharon Leigh Payne, 67, passed away at her home on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, following a lengthy illness. A private family service was held Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside. Sharon was born in Scotts Bluff, Neb. to Nebraskan natives Harold and Eileen Keller on Aug. 6, 1940. On Feb. 19, 1971 she married Richard Arlen Payne in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to the area in 1988. Sharon was active in various areas but her heart was with Special Olympics and the High Spirits Equestrian group. Her chicken gumbo was well known and she was passionate about her grandchildren. Mrs. Payne is survived by her children, John and Rita Sargent of California City, Christy and William Lewis and Michael Sargent, all of Tehachapi; and five grandchildren.
