© Tehachapi News Monday, 19 July 2007 Mark Leon Salter Long time Tehachapi resident Mark Leon Salter, 83, passed away suddenly on July 19, 2007, in Lancaster. A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 26 at Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel. Mr. Salter's grandson, Michael Roberts, officiated the service. Mark was born May 8, 1924, in Queensland, Australia. He traveled the world as a young man and served in the Australian Navy. He came to the United States in 1971. On Nov. 3, 1973, in Fort Lauderdale, he married Mabelle Joan Meadows. He worked for Rockwell, in Chatsworth, and they lived in Simi Valley. In the mid 1980s, he and Joan moved to Tehachapi, where he set up shop as a saw sharpener. Mark loved bowling, yard work and the slots at Las Vegas. He was a good dad and adored his wife. Mark is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Deborah Gambino, of Tehachapi, Laura-Jeanne Schreiber, of Gilbert, Ariz. and Dawn Eason, of Hollister; Grandchildren, Michael Roberts and Belinda Joan Campbell, both of Las Vegas; and eight great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside at a later date. Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. handled the arrangements. Mark Leon Salter, May 8, 1924 ~ July 19, 2007
