Maria de Jesus Cruz Ursua
1919 - 2007

The afternoon of Oct. 9 our family lost our wonderful mother and grandmother Maria de Jesus Cruz Ursua. Maria was born Mar. 15, 1919 in Aguascalientes, Mexico to Dionicio and Beatriz Cruz.

Maria was married to Daniel Palos and had three children. Daughter Maria Josefina and husband Richard Hedberg, who reside in Bakersfield; son Jose Palos and wife Roberta, of Tehachapi; son Daniel Palos and wife Leona, of Bakersfield.

Maria's first husband passed away in August 1946. In 1949, Maria moved to Tehachapi with husband Luis Esparza Ursua. This union brought eight additional children to the family: Louie Ursua and wife MaryAnn, of Tehachapi; Maria de la Luz Ursua, of Sacramento; Larry Ursua and wife Glenda, of Tehachapi; Sylvia Beal, of Banning; Robert Ursua, of Bakersfield; Teresa Ursua, of Tehachapi; Anna Marie Chavez and husband Anthony, of La Paz; and Beatrice Almaguer and husband Steve, of Bakersfield. Maria had 35 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

Maria was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and active in the Guadalupanos. A Rosary was held at St. Malachy's on Friday, Oct. 12 and the Mass of the Resurrection was held on Saturday, Oct. 13. Graveside services followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery ~ Westside. Father Joel Davadilla conducted the services. Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. handled the arrangements.
