Herman Mitchell Williams was born to Martin Henry and Mattie Rebecca (Linsey) Williams on Sept. 1, 1913 In Dallas Co. Texas. Herman was the ninth of eleven children, seven of which reached adulthood. Herman grew up working the family farm, first in Texas then in Oklahoma. Herman married Ruby Gore in 1935, they were together until she died in 1994. Herman and Ruby Williams had six children, one died shortly after birth. The living children, Lee, Roma, Douglas, Phyllis and Sharon, gave him 13 grandchildren who in turn gave him 18 great grandchildren. Herman started his family during The Depression taking jobs that paid a dollar a day when he could get one. He moved his family to California in 1940 and went to work for Monolith Portland Cement Plant until he retired. He lived in company housing in the company town of Monolith, and raised his family there. Herman moved his family to Tehachapi in 1958. Herman put his family first, he was a good employee, He was an honorable man true to his many friends and always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. He was noted for his good humor and cutting up (goofing around). We will miss Dad here but I am sure he is receiving a good welcome from his friends and family. Herman M.
