© The Bakersfield Californian 11 January 2003 - 13 January 2003 Raymond Frederick Sears Services: Mon., Jan. 13, 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 7100 Stockdale Highway, on Monday, Janaury 13, at 10:00 a.m., for Raymond Frederick Sears who passed away suddenly on January 7, 2003. Interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Ray was one of the good guys. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was born in Minnewaukan, North Dakota, on July 17, 1920. He earned a Masters Degree in Physical Education and was an avid basketball, football, and track coach until he was stricken with polio in his 30s. He served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Infantry during World War II. He moved to Wasco, California, in 1955 where he taught social studies, government, and psychology at Wasco High School for 26 years. He retired from teaching but never stopped working. He continued as a self-employed carpenter and cabinetmaker until his death at age 82. He passed away on the job, doing what he loved. A man of great faith, Ray was an honorary lifetime member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight since 1987. His beloved first wife, Helen, preceded Ray in death. He was blessed to meet and marry his much-adored second wife, Jane Sears, who will miss him dearly as will his sons, John and wife, Carolyn, David, Brian and wife, Irene, Michael and wife, Carmelina; his daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Kyle Terry, and Mary and Bill Melby; stepdaughters and their husbands, Rhonda and Jeff Smolek, and Debbie and Dennis Kroeker; and his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchild. His brother, Stub Sears and sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Freeman Westrum of North Dakota, also survive him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Golden Empire Gleaners, 1326 30th St. Raymond Frederick Sears, July 17, 1920 ~ January 7, 2003
