Alice Christine [Young] Yost/Whitlatch
1919 - 2008

Early on the morning of February sixth, Alice Christine Yost/Whitlatch went home to be with the Lord and other family members that have preceded her.

Alice was a unique woman, one of a kind. She had her flaws as we all do, but carried herself in dignity and grace to the end of her 89 years. As one of her granddaughters remembered, "Gram told me I shouldn't even take out the trash without putting my make~up on." Alice always started her day by making sure that her person and her clothes looked the best that she could make them. She had a real flair for color, being particular that everything matched, and that she wore just the right jewelry for the chosen outfit.

At age 83, Alice took a writing course. As a result, she became a proficient and prolific author and poet (composing some 1,000 poems and short stories). Some of her work has appeared in 7 books published by Noble House Publishers and The International Library of Poetry. Alice believed that God gave her this wonderful gift to tell her story and to encourage those who would later benefit from reading her offerings.

Alice always believed in God, but more in organized religion than a personal relationship with God through Christ. After moving to Bakersfield four years ago, her understanding of the Bible widened through personal Bible study and she grew in both her knowledge of, and her relationship to, a personal God. Her Christian life was further enriched when on July 14, 2007, she married a fine Christian man, Whit Whitlatch. As husband and wife, they often stopped by the prayer room in their residence to pray. Whit went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2008, six months to the day after their marriage.

Alice was born in Monterey, CA, on January 3, 1919, to Porter S. and Jennie E. Young.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Harold Harcourt Yost; by her husband of six months, Whit Whitlatch; and by a daughter, Elizabeth Alice Yost.

Alice leaves a loving family of whom she was very proud: daughter, Barbara and husband, Dan Schmidt of Bakersfield; son, James and wife, Judy Yost of Davis; son, Glenn and wife, Cheryl Yost of Davis; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She would be quick to say that number thirteen is on the way!

Alice will be laid to rest next to other family members on February 16, at King City Cemetery (King City, CA), following 11:00 services at Whitehurst-Grim Mortuary.
