February 2005 Kathleen M. Barnes Juneau, Alaska, resident Kathleen McDermott, Barnes, 94, died February 28, 2005. She was born October 1, 1910, in Pismo Beach and lived in San Luis Obispo County until she married and moved to Taft. She moved to Juneau, Alaska in 1997. During World War II she worked as a riveter for Lockheed Aircraft. At age 40 she attended beauty school and became a hair dresser until she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband L.A. "Happy" Barnes, granddaughter Candace Barnes, and sister Maxine McDermott Smith. She is survived by her sons Arthur Barnes and wife Alice of Taft and Donald and wife Anita of Juneau, sister Dorothy May of Paso Robles and brother James McDermott and wife Marie of San Luis Obispo. She is survived by seven grandchildren and a number of great and great great grandchildren, and three nieces and three nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Juneau Alaska Pioneers' home in late April. Her burial service will be March 11 at the Arroyo Grande District Cemetery. Kathleen M.
